Wesley Westenberg was born on April 9, 1928 to George and Alice (Eernisse) Westenberg on a farm east of Edgerton, Minnesota. He attended Edgerton Public High School, graduating in 1946.  On February 21, 1952, Wesley was united in marriage to Marianne Nykamp in Edgerton. They were blessed with four children who all grew up on the farm and learned to love the Lord in their happy home.

Wes and Marianne farmed together 40 years on their farm south of Edgerton. Then they moved to Edgerton and enjoyed 23 years of retirement. Throughout their life together they loved to travel; highlight trips included Holland, Alaska, and the west coast. 

Wesley was very active serving as a deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher at the First Reformed Church. He served at Edgebrook Care Center as a board member and as an employee. Wesley was also a board member at Inspiration Hills.

Wesley enjoyed making things with his hands, including many memorable gifts for family and friends. As a carpenter he helped all four children with additions and extensive remodels of their homes.

On Thursday, December 24, 2015, Wesley peacefully passed into heaven at the age of 87 years, eight months, and 15 days. He is loved and remembered by his wife of 63 years, Marianne; his son, Ivan and his wife Darla (Van Surksum) of Sunnyside, Washington, his daughter, Leanne and her husband Dave Van Essen of Lebanon, Oregon, his son, Wayne and his wife Diane (Hofland) of Orange City, Iowa, and his son Gene and his wife Diane (Schmidt) of Edgerton, Minnesota; his brother, Abram Westenberg of Leota, Minnesota; his sister, Kathy and her husband Cal Nyhof of Madison, Wisconsin; his sister-in-law, Barb Nykamp; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and neighbor, Betty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gertrude Westenberg; one sister-in-law, Lydia Westenberg; and one brother-in-law, Henry Nykamp.
