RUTH NELVINA (VANDER WILT) SAS was born to John and Irene (Post) Vander Wilt December 18, 1928 on a farm near Doon Iowa. In 1939 they moved to a farm west of Ruthon, MN. and Ruth attended a country school. After graduating from Ruthon High School in 1946 she worked at the Jack Sprat Grocery Store and later was a dental technician at Dr. White’s office in Ruthon.
On January 10, 1951 she was united in marriage to John Sas and they moved to the Sas farm west of Leota. They lived there until they moved to the Assisted Living facility on March 29, 2014. Ruth suffered a stroke on November 4, she became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center until her death on October 4, 2019.
Ruth is lovingly remembered for her hard work ethic, her loving disposition, her love of her children, and especially her grand children. She worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm, raising the calves and tending her flowers and garden. She taught sewing as a 4-H leader, attended ladies aid in her church and was a board member of the Edgebrook Care Center.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband John of 68 years, her daughter Nancy (Dave) Van Stelten, her sons Rod (Bonnie) Sas and Mark (Beth) Sas, her sister Nesta and brother Tyson (Lois). She has 8 grandchildren, 3 step grand children and 21 great grand children.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents (John and Irene), her brother Bill, sister Norma, brother in laws Hank and Darrel. Her daughter Pat Schuld and her grand children Jarrod Van Stelten, Kalyn and Vaughn Schuld, son-in-law Earl Schuld.
