Rosalie "Rose" Veenhof Obituary

Rosalie “Rose” Veenhof, 86 passed away peacefully on February 10. 2026 at  Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. A lifelong Minnesotan with a heart as warm as her smile, Rose leaves behind a legacy built on connection, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved.

Born on September 5, 1939, in Pipestone, Minnesota, Rose grew up with a strong sense of community and family values that shaped every chapter of her life. After graduatingfrom Edgerton Public High School in 1957, she pursued her passion at Stewart’s Beauty School, where she discovered not only a career but a calling. In 1958, she opened her own home salon—an extraordinary achievement for a young woman at that time. In an era when women couldn’t easily open and operate businesses on their own, Rose created a space that offered her both financial stability and daily purpose.

For more than 50 years, she welcomed neighbors, friends, and generations of Edgerton residents into her salon. It was more than a place for haircuts and perms—it was a gathering spot woven into the fabric of her town. Clients came as customers and left as friends. Her chair held laughter, tears, confidences, and countless stories. Rose had agift for making people feel cared for, seen, and valued, and her hands shaped not just hairstyles but the daily lives and memories of the community she served.

In 1958, she married Nicholas Veenhof. Together, they built a home rooted in love, loyalty, and practicality; values they passed down through their growing family. Though Nick preceded her in death in 2019, their partnership continues to shine through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

Rose is survived by her daughters, Robin Volk and Denise Donnahoo; her grandchildren, Brittany Volk (Warren), Lauren Lynch (Matthew), Allison Volk, and Mark Donnahoo; her great-grandson Theodore Lynch; and her brother, Ronald Pool (Sherri), along with nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherished her deeply.

To her family, Rose was so much more than a matriarch—she was a source of unconditional love. She showed up for everything: birthdays, concerts, graduations, celebrations big and small. She embraced her role as grandmother wholeheartedly, sharing crafts, books, treats, and small treasures that made even ordinary moments feel magical. Whether it was a trip to the bakery, a kitchen-table craft session, or a warm hug after a long day, she created memories that her grandchildren will carry forever.

Rose had a special fondness for birds and animals, a love of reading, thrifting and an outgoing spirit that made her shine in any room. She was talkative in the best way—full of stories, opinions, humor, and warmth. Practical, direct, and proudly Dutch, she valued hard work but always made time for the people she loved. Even as technology evolved, she kept up—texting, emailing, and connecting constantly to make sure her family knew she was cheering them on, no matter the distance.

Her presence was a gift. Her love was steady. Her legacy is one of strength, independence, creativity, and wholehearted devotion to her family and community.
