Richard Didrick Blom Obituary

Richard Didrick Blom was born on June 26, 1925 to Henry D. and Lydia (VandenBosch) Blom at their home in Leota, Minnesota.  Richard was baptized and made his profession of faith in the Reformed Church of Leota.  Richard was raised on the family farm and also went to country school near Leota.  After his schooling was completed he stayed to work with his father on the farm.  On May 8, 1945, he was married to Hildred Sas at Hildred’s parent’s home in Edgerton, Minnesota, and to this marriage four sons were born.  The two farmed in the Leota and Edgerton area until 1974 and retired due to Richard’s health.  At that time they moved to Edgerton.  They were snow birds to Texas for 29 years where he served on the church board for many years at Sunlight Baptist Church in Mission Bell, Texas.  The two volunteered there for Children’s Haven International and Hidalgo Mission.  He was also an active member of the Men’s Society.  He enjoyed entertaining friends and playing games.  The two lived together in an apartment in Edgerton until Hildred’s passing on April 29, 2006.  At that time, Richard moved into assisted living in the Edgebrook Care Center.  On March 4, 2014, Richard passed away at the Edgebrook Care Center at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 8 days old.

He is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Ivan (Aletha) Blom of Colorado, Leland (Karon) Blom of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Kenneth (Deborah) Blom of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence (Dick) VanderTop.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife; one son, Darwin; two sisters, Ardie and Lydia; and one brother, Henry.

Memorials preferred to the Edgebrook Care Center.
