Randy Reed Smith Obituary

Randolph Reed Smith born to William and Marguerite (Schuld) Smith on April 14, 1946 in Slayton Mn. Randy passed away on Saturday October 15, 2022 with his family at his side. 

Some of Randy’s fondest memories were attending grade school in Hatfield, MN.

He then attended and graduated from High School in Luverne. After Graduation he moved to

Minneapolis where he worked for Bell Telephone. In 1977 he purchased a farm near Ruthton,

MN with his father. He farmed there until 1999 when he sold his farm and bought another near

Swanville, MN where he lived until his death.

Randy had a passion for railroads and road trips. He particularly liked to visit family in

Seattle and friends in California. He enjoyed coming to family gatherings and never wanted to

miss a Schuld reunion. He also very much enjoyed classic car shows, museums, and boating on

the Mississippi. His constant companion was his Chihuahua dog, Chico. Through the years there were several Chihuahuas that Randy lovingly cared for.

His survivors include three sisters: Linda Feikema, Susanne Stegenga (Arlan), and Lanette

Szymkowicz. Nephews and nieces: Mark Johannsen (Karrie),  Crystal Tiesler (Cory), Paul

Feikema (Joi), Jodi Peterson (Bryan), Brian Stegenga (Diana), Laura Stegenga (John Fisher),

Mara Stegenga (Patrick Seamans), Ryan Haraldson (Lindsey), Kody Szymkowicz, Joseph

Szymkowicz, and Gabrielle Szymkowicz, and many great nephews and nieces and four great-

great nephews and nieces.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bonita Johannsen and Shirlee Haraldson,

Brother-in-laws Jim Johannsen, John Feikema and Scott Szymkowicz, and nephew, Nathan

Stegenga.
