Ramona Mae 'Mona' Westera was one of 13 children born to Peter and Anna (Roseboom) Roskamp. She was born on September 6, 1927 in Osborne Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota.
She attended Edgerton Christian Elementary School. She later went on to get her GED. On October 23rd, 1947, Mona married Eugene Westera in Edgerton. After living on the Westera farm West of Edgerton for a time, they moved to Edgerton and owned and operated the Edgerton Roller Rink.
In 1962, they moved their family to Slayton and worked together at their store, Gene's Soft Water and Appliance. Mona loved sewing and made most of her two daughters' clothing. She also enjoyed painting and other crafts. Both Gene and Mona enjoyed singing in the church choir. After retiring, winters were spent in their camper in Texas, Florida and Arizona.
She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Audrey (John) Schrader and Gina (Doug) Westra; two grandchildren, Nathan Schrader and Alyssa (Ben) Inniger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents; her sisters and one brother.
