Orville (Orv) Hamm was born on December 1, 1949, to Ralph and Carrie (Bolluyt) Hamm in Rock County, Minnesota. He spent his childhood on the family farm. He attended school at EHS for 12 years. In 1968 he joined the Sioux Falls Air National Guard serving his country for 6 years.
In 1969 he professed his faith in Jesus at Bethel Christian Reformed Church. In June of that same year, Orv married his high school sweetheart Brenda Tinklenberg. They began farming at that time near Ralph and Carrie by Kenneth. They soon moved south of Edgerton where they stayed for 39 years. Orv and Brenda ran a small dairy with some pigs as well and also crop farmed and then later switched to stock cattle.
Orv developed a love for fishing at an early age - learning everything there was to know from his dad. He passed along his passion for fishing by teaching his daughters how to fish and also buying a Snoopy pole for his first granddaughter before she was 1 year old. His love for fishing was evident in the 30+ years of trips made to Dead Lake with family. He made several trips to Canada and South Dakota bodies of water. He also loved to hunt anything that was in season with several trophies proudly displayed in their family home. Other interests were trap shooting, bowling, and shooting pool.
In 2011, Orv and Brenda had farm sale and moved to Edgerton. Orv loved the move immediately and continued to have his crops custom farmed for 3 more years before retiring. He then helped a local farmer with harvest for several more years until he no longer could for health reasons.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Brenda, his 2 daughters Monica Hamm of Bloomington, MN and Melisa (Todd) Van Dyke of Edgerton; two granddaughters Sierra (Tyson) Kruisselbrink and Taylor Van Dyke; one great-grandchild to bless the family in August.
Orv was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Carrie Hamm, brothers Vernon (Paulette) and Roger Hamm; sisters Marilyn (Peters) and infant Carolyn; grandson Bryant.
