Martha Romkema Obituary

MARTHA ANNA ROMKEMA was born on a beautiful autumn day, October 6, 1921, to Roy and Lena (DeBruyn) Romkema on a farm near Sheldon, Iowa. She attended country school in Iowa and later when the family moved to a farm in Minnesota, she continued her education and graduated with honors in 1938 from Edgerton Public School in Edgerton, Minnesota.

Martha moved into Edgerton with her family after the death of her father in 1936. Martha lived and worked in Edgerton the rest of her life as a secretary for the same oil company until her retirement.

Martha was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton where she was an active member. Her church and its activities were very important to her and she really enjoyed participating in bible study. She also enjoyed traveling and visiting and was the family historian.

Martha entered the Edgebrook Care Center on June 10, 2008 where she was a resident until Wednesday, June 5, 2013 when Jesus opened His arms and said, “Come you are mine, welcome home.”

Honored for sharing her life and all her Dutch customers are her two nieces, Charlene and Gary Prins of Pipestone, Minnesota, Carmen and Richard Hellinga of Bellingham, Washington; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives in Iowa and Friesland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lena; brother, John Romkema; two sisters, Nellie Sankey and Arlene Romkema; and several nieces and nephews.
