Marjorie Julia Smidt was born on September 13, 1921, to Fredrick and Hattie (Vander Linden) Kortleever in Leota, Minnesota where she attended country school.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Walter H. Smidt in the Little Brown Church on November 24, 1956. They made their home and raised two children on a farm north of Edgerton. In the spring of 1982, they moved into Edgerton. Walter preceded her in death in 1984. Marge continued to live in their home until October of 2011 when she became a resident at Edgebrook Care Center; she lived there until she passed away on July 18, 2013 at the age of 91.
Marge was a member of the First Reformed Church in Edgerton. For many years, she enjoyed helping to make pig in the blankets to help missions. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing and card playing.
Marge is lovingly remembered by her children, Wilma (Don) Morrison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Walter Jr. (Roxie) Smidt of Edgerton, Minnesota, two grandchildren, Becky (Doug) Zimmer and Corey (Priscilla) Smidt and four great-grandchildren, Braxton and Conner Zimmer and Emma and Trinity Smidt. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.
