Margaret Joan Mesman

Margaret “Marge” Joan Mesman was born on April 28th, 1935 to Raymond and Della (Gritters) Hulstein in Sioux Center, Iowa. When Marge was young, her parents moved a few times and she grew up on farms near Sioux Center, Woodstock, Minnesota and Edgerton, Minnesota. When Marge’s family moved to Woodstock, she helped her mom tend the family and later worked at Woodstock Telephone Company. While attending church in Edgerton, she met Arvin Mesman.

Marge married Arv on May 7, 1953 in the Protestant Reformed Church in Edgerton. Their marriage was blessed with 3 boys: Dennis, Doug and Dale. Marge and Arv were also foster parents to girls Pat and Rhonda. They spent 2 and half years with them and were loved by the family. Marge had a special spot in her heart for teenagers and that is why they were foster parents. They first lived in an apartment in Edgerton before moving to Sioux Center, IA. They lived there for three years, then moved back to Edgerton were they farmed most of their active years. After retiring they moved into town. Marge then worked at Huisken’s Department Store. She continued to live in Edgerton after Arv’s death in 2009. Marge moved to Edgebrook on August 15, 2013 where she died peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and eight days.

Marge was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. She was a Calvinette counselor for many years and was a strong pro-life supporter. In her later years, Marge was a faithful follower of her grandkids activities, especially sporting events. She also loved it when any of the family would stop by (especially on Saturday mornings for bakery rolls). 

Marge is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Doug (Lori) Mesman of Edgerton and their two children, Micah and Brooke, and Dale (Tami) Mesman of Edgerton and their four children, Reed (Carrie) and their two daughters, Royce and Holland, Ethan (Erica) and their two daughters, Cora and Eva, Spencer (Ashley Bos), and Alexis (Devin) Klarenbeek and their daughter, Raigen; her foster daughter, Rhonda Fritz of Colorado; siblings, Ray Hulstein, Jr. of Edgerton, Leonard (Jean) Hulstein of Chandler, Minnesota, Delmer (Faye) Hulstein of Edgerton, Leroy (Faye) Hulstein of Woodstock, Minnesota, Ivy (Vern) Bolt of Bose, Idaho, Sharon Struiksma of Bellflower, California, and Karon (Leland) Blom of Pipestone; in-laws, LaVonne Hulstein of Leota, Minnesota, Arlene Hulstein of Edgerton, and Harold VanSurksum of Luverne, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arv; her son, Dennis; her parents; siblings, “Berdie” (Cornie) Broek, Lois (Barney) Buyert, Gary Hulstein, Ed Hulstein, and Garneth VanSurksum.
