John Sas Obituary

John Sas …was born on December 26, 1926, to Simon and Anna (Schaap) Sas on a farm near Leota, MN.  He lived there most of his life except for a year and a half when he was a child and they lived in California.  Then they moved back to the family farm by Leota.  John had 2 sisters, Hildred and Ruth.  John went to grade school at Leota Christian and high school at Edgerton Public.  He joined the army for a couple of years toward the end of WWII.
When he returned, he met Ruth Vander Wilt and later married her on January 10, 1951.  John and Ruth had 4 children: Patricia, Nancy, Rod, and Mark.  They built a dairy business on the home farm and the family worked there together.
John and Ruth were faithful members of the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota.  John served on the Ebenezer counsel as deacon and elder.  All their children went through Leota Christian school and SWCH, which was important to them.
John’s hobby was going on vacation with his family. Over the years he and Ruth traveled to several foreign countries. Mazatlán, Mexico was his favorite place. He had the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight in 2010 to see the WWII memorial.
John and Ruth entered Edgebrook Assisted Living on March 29, 2014.  As their health deteriorated, they moved into the Care Center.  Ruth passed away on October 4, 2019.
