Joan Katherine Vant Hof was born January 14, 1937 to Dick and Hattie (Lyftogt) Jeffer in Sheldon, Iowa.  She attended elementary school in Matlock, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon / Edgerton High School in 1955 and moved to a farm near Leota, Minnesota.  On January 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to John Vant Hof in Leota.  The couple moved to California for several years and then returned to Luverne, Minnesota where Joan worked for State Farm Insurance.  Following the graduation of their children, the couple moved to Brainerd, Minnesota.  Joan became an LPN and continued her education at Bemidji State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  She worked at Brainerd State Hospital and upon her retirement, she moved to Edgerton.  On April 5, 2017, Joan entered the care of Sanford Luverne Hospital for a procedure.  After complications occurred, she was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls where she died at the age of 80 years. 

Joan was a member of First Reformed Church in Edgerton, Minnesota.  She was active in the life of the congregation serving in circle, bible study, and book club.  She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, knitting, crochet, travelling, camping, and watching Loren, Morgan, and Joni ride horses. 

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Dawn (and Dennis) Vander Beek of Edgerton, Minnesota, and Terry (and Tammy) Vant Hof of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; grandchildren, Teresa (Daniel) Nyquist, Loren (Morgan) Vander Beek, and Joni Vander Beek, Heather (Joe) Bregier, Michael (Stephanie) Hallstrom, Bryce Hallstrom, and Katya Vant Hof; great grandchildren, Case and Kurtis Vander Beek, and Evan and Lilly Bregier; a brother, Joe (Wilma) Jeffer of Luverne, Minnesota; and a sister, Helen (and David) Nordgren of Cross Lake, Minnesota; and her constant companion, Zena the cat.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Hattie; a son, Dale Vant Hof; and a sister C.H. Kolleen.  Blessed and eternal be her memory.
