Jana Lynn Mouw was born to Fred and Donna (Tolsma) Vander Kolk in Pipestone, MN, on August 6, 1970. She attended Edgerton Christian Elementary and Southwest Christian High School, graduating in 1988. On June 4, 1988 she married Craig Mouw. They had a son, Tyler, on November 12 1988, and a daughter, Kaci, on February 8, 1993. After moving several times, Craig and Jana made their home in Edgerton. Jana worked at Edgebrook Care Center as a CNA for many years before enrolling in nursing school. While working, taking care of her family, and going to nursing school, she graduated with her LPN degree in 1997. She then furthered her education and graduated with her RN degree in 2000. In 2001, Jana started working at Sanford Luverne Hospital where she worked for the next twelve years. She was a caring, competent nurse with an infectious personality, brightening the spirits of her coworkers and the patients she cared for at the hospital. It was a great loss to Jana when she could no longer work due to her health. In 2001, she was also diagnosed with Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. She endured multiple tests and surgeries to battle this disease on and off for the next 13 years.
Jana was a professed and baptized member of First Christian Reformed Church of Edgerton. She held a STRONG love for the Lord and expressed her faith many times by letting it shine through her while touching many lives. A lot of her faith was also shared through her writings on her Caring Bridge site for anyone to read and hopefully be inspired to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior or to just strengthen the faith of fellow believers. She walked a long journey with TEAM JANA by her side and was truly an inspiration to those who knew her. It was with great sadness to those whom she knew and loved that Jana lost her battle on January 2, 2014, and went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 43 years, 4 months and 27 days.
Jana is lovingly remembered by her husband Craig of over 25 years; their children, Tyler Mouw and Kaci Mouw; her parents, Fred and Donna (Tolsma) Vander Kolk of Edgerton; her sisters, Evon and Jim Van Hofwegen of Edgerton, and Sandy and Brad Lanser of Denver, CO; mother and father in-law, Elaine (Spyksma) and Gordon Mouw of Leota, MN; siblings-in-law, Dawn and Wayne Mouw of Chandler, MN, Sheila and Kerry May of Magnolia, TX, Gina and Ross Harkins of Baldwin, KS, and Pamela and Brad Feist of Denver; 11 nephews; one niece; two great-nephews; and many other extended family and friends.
