On October 22, 1927, Harold was born at the Bolt farm northeast of Leota to his parents, John and Henrietta (De Groot) Bolt. After his eighth grade graduation, he went to the Chandler High School. He then finished his education after two years at the Worthington Jr. College.

Following his education, Harold began an accounting career at Swift and Co. in Worthington. During this time he and Elaine De Boer were also married on June 24, 1952 at the Leota Reformed Church. After just one year of living in Worthington, he was transferred to Montevideo Swift and Co. But after another year, he was offered a job as manager at the Edgerton Coop and Fertilizer Plant. This job lasted for nearly forty years until his retirement in 1992. Harold was very dedicated to his job and enjoyed working with the many farming customers.

Harold attended Bethel Christian Reformed Church where he served as both an elder and a deacon many times. He lived out his Christian faith in his patience and his kind soft-spoken words to others. He loved hymns, especially “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “How Great Thou Art”. An especially meaningful event for his was to attend Promise Keepers with friends.

Harold was also active in the community as he served on the Dutch Festival Committee, the Civic Club, and on the School Boards at Southwest Christian and Edgerton Christian. He cared about his town, but he and Elaine also liked to travel to many different places in the States along with trips to Europe and Mexico. Later they spent several winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Harold was a wonderful husband and father and will be fondly remembered by his wife and his family. He and his wife of over 62 years had two sons. They are Dale and Shelly of Brainerd, MN and Doug and Jannell of Luverne.
