Harlan Gene Spronk was born on January 6, 1955 to Arthur and Mayme Spronk in Pipestone, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm west of Edgerton. Harlan attended Edgerton Christian Elementary School, graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 1973, and attended Jackson Vocational School for Ag Management. Harlan was baptized as an infant and made profession of faith at Bethel CRC in 1977.
He started raising pigs and crop farming in 1976. Along with his brother and his dad, he started Art Spronk & Sons Seed Plant in 1985. Harlan enjoyed farming and loved working with his dear brother Cal.
Harlan was united in marriage to Diane Vis on July 16, 1982. They were blessed with three children: Carrie, Kimberly and Elliot. Harlan was devoted to his family and was a kind, humble and gentle father. He loved spending time with his children. He led by his example. In his later years, he was often found playing on the floor with his grandchildren and holding his grandbabies.
Harlan was a member of Bethel CRC for most of his life. He served as a Cadet counselor, Stephen Minister, Church Education teacher, deacon, and presently as an elder.
Harlan was diagnosed with renal cell cancer in March of 2015 and fought a courageous battle with strength and grace as cancer metastasized to his brain, lungs and liver. He was under the loving care of Pipestone Home Hospice and his family. Harlan went home to be with Jesus on October 27, 2021 at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 21 days. He held on to the hope of the resurrection, which he always mentioned in his prayers.
Blessed by his life are his wife Diane of 39 years; daughter Carrie & Jevon Groenewold, Levi, Adelyn, and Reuben; daughter Kimberly & John Watkins and Oliver; and son Elliot & Esther Spronk, Mya and Koen.
