Fred F. Seldon, was born on July 11, 1929, to Walter and Theresa (Schuller) Seldon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and passed away with his family by his side on October 26, 2019 in Donna, Texas, at the age of 90.
He attended Country School 39 and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1948. In October of 1950 he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years in the Pacific during the Korean War. He returned home after his service to work alongside his family on their farm near Edgerton.
Fred married the love of his life, Carol Kroeger, on June 11, 1960 and continued farming while raising their three daughters. Fred was a true entertainer. He brought great joy to all who heard him sing and play his guitar. At the age of 14 he picked up his first guitar and did not stop entertaining until God brought him home to sing with the angels. Fred also enjoyed dancing with his wife in the Holly Hopper’s Square Dance Club, was a member of the Southwest Minnesota Auto Enthusiasts, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #42 for 57 years, and was an elder and active member in the First Presbyterian Church. After 20 years of enjoying their winters in the Rio Grande Valley, they became full-time Texans in 2014.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol, and their three daughters, Peggy (Tom Schwieger) Seldon of West Fargo, ND, Kim (Todd) Richter of Colorado Springs, CO, and Nadeen (Tom) Jacobson of Plymouth, MN, seven grandchildren, Amy (Daniel) Nachtigall, Jessica Kraayenhof, Bret (Jessie) Richter, Kyle Richter, Matthew, Grant, and Lauren Jacobson and 2 great-grandchildren, Ian Nachtigall, and Charlie Richter, special friends Jerry Payton and Muriel Ward, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Sam and Larry Seldon.
