Estella Celeste Vis

Estella Vis went to be with Jesus on February 21, 2023; she was 84 years old.

Estella Celeste was born on September 6, 1938 to Jacob and Effie (Stursma) Dahm in Peoria, Iowa. She attended Peoria Christian School and graduated from Pella Christian High School. She went on to attend Dordt College, graduating with a teacher’s certificate in 1957.

On August 19, 1959, Estella was united in marriage to Allen “Bud” Vis; they moved to Edgerton, MN in 1960. They were blessed with four children: Debra, Julie, Trent, and Melanie. In August of 2022 Estella and Allen were married for 63 years.

Estella taught in Christian schools in Peoria, IA and Moline, MI; she was a remedial teacher for many years at Edgerton Christian School. Estella was a mother and homemaker dedicated to nurturing her children and tending the home. She enjoyed traveling with the family to places all across the United States, making every trip filled with educational opportunites. She also loved to facilitate party games at family gatherings. Outside the home, she enjoyed weekly gatherings with friends for coffee.

Estella was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. She faithfully attended Mary Guild for 63 years. She spent more than 35 years volunteering with Friendship Ministries; she worked for decades in the church library as well.

Estella is lovingly remembered by her husband, Allen; her children, Julie (Ernest) Stellingwerff of Hastings, MN, Trent (Dawn) Vis of Urbandale, IA,  and Melanie (Steven) Wisse of Oostburg, WI; son-in-law Chad (Carmen) Fey of Duluth, MN; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren (the little ones called her “Grama-Great”); and sister Dorothy Van Kooten of Pella, IA.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Fey, her parents, her parents-in-law Peter and Alice Vis, her brother James Dahm, twin infant brothers, and many other family members.

Family has asked for memorials to go to either Luke Society or Joni Eareckson Tada (joni and friends.org).
