Elvira Corbin Obituary

Elvira Corbin...was born on November 4, 1931, to Peter and Lena (Baker) Bouma in Hull, IA. Along with her 11 siblings, she lived on a farm near Hull and attended school there. When she was 10 years old, the family moved to a farm east of Edgerton, MN, where she finished her schooling at Edgerton Christian.

Elvira married Earl Corbin in March of 1951, and remained in Edgerton. In addition to raising three children, Elvira held several jobs working at grocery stores, Edgerton Co-op and the local meat market. She and Earl opened a small restaurant/arcade in Edgerton in the early 80’s and ran that for several years. In later years they opened and ran an upholstery business. She was a charter member with the Edgebrook Auxiliary and volunteered there. In addition to her auxiliary work, she held various offices on the Edgebrook board. She also volunteered at her children’s schools.

Elvira was a talented seamstress and sewed many of her family’s clothes. Much of her seamstress work included altering patterns to fit the latest fashions. She taught herself the lost art of tatting and made beautiful tatted lace. She thoroughly enjoyed bowling and also travelled with her team to many tournaments including the Minnesota State Bowling Tournament. She also enjoyed her monthly meetings and outings with her Extension Group.

Later in life Elvira travelled extensively with her daughter. Highlight trips were to Alaska, Panama, and travelling the west coast from Vancouver, Canada, to southern California, including a visit to Dr. David Jeremiah’s church. The two of them enjoyed visiting many flower gardens and making surprise visits to many of her nieces and nephews.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Elvira is remembered by her children: Orvin (Deb) Corbin of Edgerton, Rhonda Corbin of Sioux Falls, SD, and Ryan (Kim) Corbin of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren: Tanner, Kaci, Ethan, and Seth; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Joy DeGroot; and many nieces and nephews.

Elvira was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents, Peter and Lena Bouma, and 10 of her brothers and sisters and their spouses.
