Edith Walhof was born to James and Jenny Post of Chandler, MN on November 20, 1934. She attended a country elementary school and then graduated from Chandler High School in 1952. She married Peter Alvin Walhof on May 26, 1953 at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church. She joined Peter at Bethel Christian Reformed Church and was an active member there throughout her life. They farmed one mile south of Edgerton for 40 years where they raised their five children. They moved to Edgerton in 1993. Pete died in 2003 and Edith mourned his death for many years. Edith remained in Edgerton and moved into Edgebrook Care Center in 2020. She died October 28, 2022 at the age of 87.
Edith had the gift of hospitality. She joyfully welcomed everyone into her home. New teachers, pastors, out-of-town guests, family and friends were all welcomed with food and a place to stay. No one ever left hungry.
She was a regular volunteer at several thrift stores where she couldn’t resist a good bargain. She often came home with shoes or articles of clothing for herself or family and friends. She also loved sewing, gardening, and volunteering at church and school.
Grateful for her life are her five children - Beth Bakker and her husband Gene, Joan Baker and her husband Larry, Kathy Vander Lugt and her husband Ron, Lois Van Dyke and her husband Tim, Jon Walhof and his wife Janet, 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Besides her children and their families, she is survived by one sister - Kathy Kuhl and her husband Lou, one brother - Jim Post and his wife Sue, two sisters-in-law - Arlene Post and Betty Vander Plaats and one brother-in-law, Ed Lubben.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, three brothers - Nelson, Walter and Frank Post, four sisters - Bernice Manderscheid, Ada DeKoekKoek, Geneva Toering, and Evelyn Lubben.
