Duane R. Hunter was born on October 24, 1927 to Edward and Amanda (Zobel) Hunter in Elmer Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota.  He attended county school in Elmer Township until the 8th grade when he started farming with his Dad on the family homestead.  Duane was united in marriage on March 13, 1947, to Anna Marie Broekhuis in Rock Rapids, Iowa.  Following their marriage, they made their home on Duane’s family homestead.  Duane loved his work as a farmer, in addition to his own farming, he did custom baling and combining for several people.  He also milked cows for many years as well as selling Blaney seed corn.  Duane loved being a farmer, he remained on his family homestead until December 2010, when the farm was sold to their grandson, Jesse and they moved into Edgerton.  On April 7, 2015, Duane was admitted into the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton where he lived until his death on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the age of 87 years, six months and four days. 

Duane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edgerton where he served as Elder.  He loved to help the neighbors and tell jokes.  Duane would always say that if John Deere or Ford didn’t make it, he didn’t need it.  His life was being a Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to the Hunter Family Reunion every August.  They would all go camping the night before and Duane would bring the best steaks. 

Duane is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Marie of Edgerton; daughters: Linda (Joe) Garthright of Lawton, Iowa and Sue (Al) Prins of Chandler, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Charla (Curt) Bangasser of Garvin, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff; grandson, Todd Garthright and great-granddaughter, Sailor Prins.
