David Lee Jongetjes was born on August 1, 1965, to LeRoy and Martha (Scholten) Jongetjes in Luverne, Minnesota.  He was raised in Edgerton, Minnesota and attended Edgerton Public Schools, graduating with honors in 1983.  He participated in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, choir and speech.  He attended Worthington Community College where he played football.  He graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1985.  He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa where he was a member of the football and track and field teams; he graduated in 1988. He entered graduate school for Counseling at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota where he received his Master’s Degree in 1993.  He was a K-12 Counselor and coach in Bonesteel-Fairfax, South Dakota School District from 1992-1999 and in the Dayton, North Dakota School District from 1999 until his death.  David died of a heart attack on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his home in Drayton, North Dakota at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 18 days. 

David coached summer recreation Little League and VFW baseball in Edgerton for most of the 90’s.  He loved sports and coaching, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.  David was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton where he made his profession of faith as a young man.

David is survived by his parents, LeRoy and Martha of Edgerton; four aunts, Carolyn Scholten of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Jean Bosman of Lake Worth, Florida, Darlene (Harvey) Sawyer of Edgerton, Verla (Kirk) Wheeler of Reading, Minnesota; six cousins, Melanie (David) Stocks, Beth (Rafael) Acosta, Michelle (Jack) Brouwer, Greg Sawyer, Ron Schmidt and Brad Schmidt; two great-aunts, Gert Steinberg of Hills, Minnesota and Winnie Scholten of Steen, Minnesota; and a host of relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Douwina Scholten and Gerrit and Martina Jongetjes; uncles, Wendell Schmidt and Edward Bosman; and one cousin Michael Schmidt.
