Daniel Carl Schnyders was born on April 2, 1930 to Carl and Alice (Templeman) Schnyders in Edgerton, Minnesota. He attended Edgerton Public School and graduated in 1948. After completing his education he enlisted into the United States Air Force and served from 1950 – 1954 in Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, from which he received an honorable discharge. He was united in marriage on May 11, 1952 to Dena Ver Hey at the Protestant Reformed Church in Edgerton. In 1954, Dan began working at the egg plant in Marshall, Minnesota until 1957. For a time he worked for Edgerton Coop Elevator until 1965 when he took an oath and served as the Postmaster in Edgerton. In 1992, he retired from the Post Office after working there for 27 years. After his retirement, he served on the Edgerton City Council, enjoyed buying and selling things on Ebay, travelling with Dena, and working many other part time jobs. In 2012, Dan survived a severe heart condition, of which he was thankful for the rest of his life. On November 7, 2016, he passed away at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 86 years, seven months, and five days.
Dan was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton and the Kenneth F. Kingsley American Legion Post #42 in Edgerton. He was an active person; he loved his God, his family, Edgerton, and America. He taught gun safety classes and enjoyed his years as Postmaster. He was a member of the Edgerton Volunteer Fire Department. He was quick with a joke and was excellent at backing up firetrucks.
Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Dena of Edgerton; three children, Jerry (Sheila) Schnyders of Worthington, Minnesota, Melinda (Calvin) Bratt of Lynden, Washington, and Kevin (Clara) Schnyders of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Scott, and Tony Schnyders, Rachel Penkoff, Rebecca Gebbers, Julie Vander Laan, Jill Sandbulte, and Dan, Andrew, and Amanda Schnyders; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Alice) Schnyders of Leesburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Trygve Schnyders; and one sister, Ann (Wissink) Kooistra.
