Betty Joan Obbink was born to Peter and Frieda Groeneweg on March 30, 1931. She grew up on a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa and attended school there. On June 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Edwin Obbink in Rock Valley, Iowa. After farming in the Hawarden, Iowa; Inwood, Iowa and Canton, South Dakota areas, they purchased a farm near Edgerton, Minnesota in 1968. While Ed farmed, Betty worked at the ASCS office in Pipestone. After working there, she then switched to a teller position at the State Bank of Edgerton. Betty was involved with the Lake Geneva Family Bible Conference. She and Ed became involved in volunteering for different missions. They worked with the following CRWRC Disaster teams; Rapid Response, Reconstruction and Needs Assessment, Sowers Ministry, Justice for All, Crossroads Prison Ministry and South West Minnesota Pro-Life.
Betty enjoyed sewing and has made many dresses and quilts. Her hobbies were camping, traveling, fishing and playing games, lots of games. She loved to spend time with the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on camp-outs and family events.
On Thursday, March 20, 2014, Betty died at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 20 days old.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her children; Rod and Barb (Fritz) of Edgerton, Minnesota and their children, Nathaniel and Mara; Ronna and Doug Tecken of George, Iowa and their children, Annalise, Adam, Pastor Nicholas and Rebekah Proksch and their son, Jeremy, Benjamin and Tori (Kasten) and their son, Tristan; Roxann and Ardene Boysen of Flandreau, South Dakota and their children, Matthew, Joshua and Amanda (Neal) and their children, Lydia and Lucas, Aaron and Bridget (Nock); and Brad Obbink of Huron, South Dakota; three sisters, Mildred and Con Schaap of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janice and Earl Obbink of Littleton, Colorado, and Sheryl and Clayton Jongetjes of Escondido, California.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin Obbink and parents, Pete and Frieda Groeneweg.
