Alvina Schoolmeester was born March 6, 1934 to Everet and Martha DeVries in Edgerton, MN.

Alvina, along with her six siblings were raised on a farm north of Edgerton. She attended grade school at Edgerton Christian School and high school at Western Christian School in Hull, Iowa.

Alvina married Orvin Schoolmeester on December 29, 1951. While living in Edgerton, Alvina enjoyed many activities. Many days were spent each summer camping with family and friends. Fishing was a favorite activity of Alvina, and she spent time teaching her children to also enjoy this past time. A large garden was usually included in the summer activities. She loved playing board games and cards. She had a love and talent for sewing. She sewed everyday clothes, school clothes and many bridesmaid dresses for her family and others. Alvina worked many years at Jolink Pharmacy and volunteered to help with the many activities supporting Edgerton Christian School and Southwest Christian High School. 

 Orvin and Alvina had the opportunity to live on Lake Shetek for several years. She continued her love of fishing, water skiing and many family gatherings. In 1985, they moved to California where she worked in property management. Shortly after the passing of her husband Orvin in 1995, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD, to be closer to family and continue working in property management. With her desire to be even closer to family, she moved back to Edgerton. She continued to volunteer and served on the Edgebrook Auxiliary.

 Alvina is lovingly remembered by her children: Roy (Cindi) Schoolmeester of Ramsey, MN, Ronna (Curt) Wassink of Edgerton, MN, Evon (Brad) Mittelstadt of Slayton, MN, Jana (Lee) Beckering of Garvin, MN, Dale (Stephanie) Schoolmeester of Lafayette, CO, and Delaine (Arvin) VanderWoude of Chandler, MN; thirteen grandchildren: Troy, Kyle, Shane, Dawn, Derek, Jill, Julie, Jordan, Bret, Allison, Danielle, Darci, and Deidra; twenty-five great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Alvina is preceded in death by her husband Orvin Schoolmeester; parents Everet and Martha DeVries; grandson Ryan Beckering; great-grandson Trygve Schnyders; sister Wilma Schoolmeester; and brother Albert DeVries.
