Alma Beckering Obituary

Alma H. Beckering was born on November 14, 1929 to William and Hattie (Schoolmeester) Krosschell in
Edgerton, Minnesota. She was baptized in the Christian Reformed Church and attended Edgerton
Christian School. When she was 10 years old, she moved with her parents to Pipestone, Minnesota. She
attended Pipestone High School and worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Pipestone during her senior
year. After her graduation in 1947 and after completing other education, Alma worked for Dr. White in
Pipestone. On September 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Merlyn Beckering at the First Reformed
Church in Edgerton. Following their marriage, they lived on the family farm. In 1952, Alma began
working for Dr. Gerrit Beckering and in 1970 she began for Beckering Medical. The couple then moved
their family to a farm near Hatfield, Minnesota in 1957. Alma continued to work in Edgerton until 1995.
In 1990, they moved to Pipestone and in 1995, Alma went to work for the Pipestone Family Clinic until
her retirement in October of 2010. Merlyn preceded Alma on February 25, 2012. On Monday, August 24,
2020, Alma died peacefully at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 90 years, nine months
and ten days.
Alma was a member of the First Reformed Church in Edgerton where she was confirmed in 1951. She
was active in Joy Circle, served as a Sunday School teacher and played piano at church services for many
years. She volunteered her time for the Hatfield First Responders, the Clothes Closet Board and the
Hospital Advisory Board and was a member of the CBS Club.
Alma is lovingly remembered by her three children, Lanette Wignes and her husband, Mark, of
Rochester, Minnesota, Ronald Beckering of Edgerton, and Roger Beckering and his wife, Caroline, of
Peoria, Arizona; four grandchildren, Amy Wignes Mallet and her husband, Mike, Adam Wignes, Elizabeth
Beckering and Alexandra Beckering; two great-grandsons, Gavin and Logan Mallet; numerous people she
helped and worked with; and her many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Merlyn; daughter, Stacie Lynn; parents, William and Hattie Krosschell; and two brothers, Harold and
William Krosschell.
