ALICE Krosschell was born on January 18, 1920 to Gerrit & Marrigje (Vanderwal) Vos on a farm place by Chandler, MN. She was baptized and made profession of her faith at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, MN. She attended Leota Christian School through the 8th grade. After 8th grade, she did a lot of home care for mothers of new babies. She also did egg candling for John Krosschell’s produce prior to marriage.
On January 16, 1941, she was united in marriage to Peter Krosschell. They lived by Leota and then moved into Edgerton where she was a mother and homemaker. She assisted her husband Pete in running his shoe sales and repair business. She also worked at the Pipestone hospital and care unit and then when Edgebrook opened she worked there as a nurse’s aide for 21 years.
She was a faithful member of Edgerton First Christian Reformed Church, ladies aid, and senior citizens. They enjoyed camping and for several years took on the role of camp host and hostess at the Ilhen State Park. They spent 15 winters camping in Texas - enjoying games, cards, and doing volunteer work. Alice enjoyed sewing, baking, and embroidering. She always made sure she had sets of embroidered towels on hand for gifts and for school donation sales. She loved having coffee guests.
Alice and Pete moved into Edgebrook Estate Independent Apartments in March of 2016. Pete passed away May 1, 2018. Alice became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center on June 1, 2022.
Alice went to her heavenly home on May 19, 2025, at the age of 105 years and 5 months. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Norma Krosschell of Orange City, IA; her daughters, Sal (Cal) Schaap of Leota, MN; Vonnie (Michael) Barber of Muscatine, IA; Aud (Denny) Bleyenburg of Edgerton, MN; and Sandi (Jeff) Hulst of Gladbrook, IA. She will be greatly missed by her 21 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Clarice Krosschell and Madeline Sharkey.
