Albert Vander Haar

Albert Vander Haar was born on March 1, 1928, to Evert and Cornelia (Vander Braak) Vander Haar in Barenveld, Netherlands. His family immigrated to the United States in September, 1936, when Albert was eight years old and made their home in Chandler, Minnesota. He grew up in the Chandler/Edgerton/Woodstock area until he was a teenager when the family moved to California for two years before returning to farm by Woodstock, Minn.
On July 15, 1949, Albert was united in marriage to Henrietta Struiksma at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church. They celebrated 70 years of marriage last July. They farmed in the Edgerton/Woodstock area until the fall of 1977. At that time they started the Chandler Coast to Coast hardware store which they operated until 1992 when the Chandler tornado demolished their store building.
They retired and moved to Edgerton where they lived until 2013 when they moved into an independent apartment at Edgebrook Estates. Albert lived there with Henrietta until October 28, 2018, when he entered Edgebrook Care Center and lived there until his passing on March 22, 2020.
Albert served as a council member of the Chandler Christian Reformed Church and board member for Southwest Minnesota Christian High School. For several years, while living in Edgerton, Albert volunteered his time working on wheelchairs for Hope Haven.
Albert enjoyed bowling, golfing, and visiting with family, neighbors, and friends. He was also interested in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed riding through the country looking at the different stages of the crops throughout the growing season.
Albert is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Henriettta; a daughter, Karen (Dan ) Hansen, of Leavenworth, Kansas; three sons, Wes (Cheri) Vander Haar of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ron (Dawn) Vander Haar of Sioux Falls, S.D., Michael Vander Haar of Edgerton, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Harriet) Vander Haar of Edgerton, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Van Dam of Edgerton, Minn.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Cornelia, a brother, Evert Vander Haar Jr., a sister and brother-in-law, Jennie and Martin Van Ruler, sister-in-law, Jo Vander Haar, and brother-in-law, Harry Van Dam.
