In 1988, through mutual friends, Jeannette met Owen Tinklenberg and the two began dating. In March of 1988, the couple moved to Edgerton, Minnesota where on June 24, 1989 they were married at the First Christian Reformed Church. Jeannette began substitute teaching at the Pipestone Vocational School in Pipestone, Minnesota, for a short time. She then became a teacher at Early Child Family Education at the Edgerton Public School. As she enjoyed raising her three children, Jeannette decided to open her own dog grooming business.
