BARBARA HELEN NETTINGA was born on June 6, 1945, to Chris and Helen (VanderLaan) Nettinga in
Pipestone, Minnesota. She was raised on the family farm near Edgerton, Minnesota and graduated from
Edgerton Public High School in 1963. Following her graduation, Barb relocated to Sioux Falls, South
Dakota and furthered her education at the Sioux Valley School of Nursing. Her career as a registered
nurse at the Sioux Valley and later, Sanford Hospital, would go on for over 45 years prior to her
retirement in 2018. On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Barb passed away at the Sanford USD Medical Center
in Sioux Falls.
Barb was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls where she sang in the church choir.
Throughout her life, Barb always had a passion for animals and enjoyed the companionship of her dogs.
Most recently, she enjoyed the four years shared with her current dog, Mandy. Barb also had many fond
memories of visits to different restaurants in the area with her friends in the “Tuesday Taster” group.
She also kept busy with gardening and working on projects in her home.
Barb is remembered by her sister, Vera (Ben) Roberts of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; brother-in-law,
John (Barb) Osborn of Tacoma, Washington; and four nieces and nephews, John Roberts, Kristin (Drew)
Shields, Chris (Buffy) Osborn, and Caryn (Jason) Osborn. She was preceded in death by her parents and
sister, Janice Osborne.
