Annabelle Schelhaas Obituary

Annabelle Gertrude Schelhaas was born on June 27, 1929, to Frank and Gertrude (Beernink) Beckering. Annabelle’s mother passed away when she was two years of age. She then went to live with her aunt and uncle, Dora and John Menning, who raised her into adulthood.

She was a 1947 graduate of Edgerton Public High School. Annabelle met Vernon Schelhaas and they got married June 27, 1950, at Runals Memorial Hall, Edgerton. The marriage was blessed with two children, Trudy and Ken. Annabelle worked at Huisken Market for a number of years. She loved working there and especially enjoyed the social part of the job. She worked there into her 70’s. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Annabelle was a member of First Reformed Church, Edgerton.  She taught the youngest class of Sunday school children for many years and also belonged to a Ladies Aid group.

She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers and fishing, especially going up north fishing with her grandsons.  She was a kindhearted and caring person who loved a good belly laugh and would do anything for her grandsons and great-grandsons. She took a great trip to the Netherlands with Vernon and her brother Rich and his wife Anna Jean to visit relatives.

She is survived by her husband Vernon, Pipestone, son Ken Schelhaas of Chaska, Minn., grandsons Zachary (Brittnay) Schelhaas  of New Prague, Minn., and Max (Libby) Schelhaas of Waconia, Minn., great-grandsons Preston Schelhaas, Levi Schelhaas, and Ashton Schelhaas, half-brother Don (Mary) Beckering, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by daughter Trudy Schelhaas, brother Rich Beckering, birth parents Frank and Gertrude Beckering,  step-mother Nellie Beckering, uncle/father John Menning, aunt/mother Dora Menning, half-brother Duane Beckering, half-sister Maria Gorter, brothers/cousins Lawrence Menning and Walt Menning.
