Lauretta Vander Lugt daughter of Fred J. and Minnie (Klinghagen) Slagter, was born on her grandfather’s farm north of Clara City, Minnesota, on August 27, 1923. At a very young age she moved with her family to Prinsburg, Minnesota. She went to country school and graduated from Prinsburg Christian School. She worked various jobs including factory work and clerking in grocery stores. On March 30, 1954, Lauretta married Peter H. Vander Lugt at Prinsburg Christian Reformed Church. After their marriage they moved to a farm two miles west of Edgerton, Minnesota. In 2002, the couple moved into Edgerton. On Friday, August 4, 2017, while at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lauretta went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and eight days.

Lauretta enjoyed classical music and singing hymns and psalms in church choirs. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Bible study group. She worked with and served as “Key Lady” with the Bible League and worked for years at the thrift store in Worthington. She was a Proverbs 31 woman, enjoying being the mother of five healthy children, gardening, canning, sewing and mending, reading Bible stories, and helping her family learn catechism and Sunday School lessons. Prayer was very important to her.

Lauretta will be remembered by her husband of 63 years, Peter; five children, Alvin (Joyce) Vander Lugt, Marianne (Al) Meijer, Kevin (Bev) Vander Lugt, Glenn (Pearl) Vander Lugt, and Ruth Vander Lugt; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (with two on the way); a sister, Frances VanAalsburg; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Sophia Tebben, Anna Wieberdink, and Selma Dirksen; and two brothers, John Slagter and Calvin Slagter.

Dear family of Lauretta Vander Lugt:

We wish to express our sympathy is the death of your mother. We are the Iowa relatives. Some of you would remember Carl and Grace von Glan, well, I am the daughter-in-law, wife of Rodney von Glan. I have been doing some genealogy this past week and found your family tree. Carl's mother was a Klinghagen, Simka. Also found another sister, Francis, living in Michigan.

I love these Dutch names, VanderLugt and VanAalsburg. My maiden name is Dysktra and I was from the Sioux County area, Hull, Iowa. so I recognize their origin. My home church was the First Reformed Church in Hull, Ia.

Sorry we wouldn't be able to come to the funeral services, but you will be in our thoughts and prayers. God be with you during this time of sorrow.

Yours in Christ's name,

Carol and Rodney von Glan, Donna von Glan, and Sheila Michaelsen, Swanette's daugther.

Dear Vander Lugt family,

Sympathies on the passing of Aunt Loretta. What a comfort, though, to know she's now with her heavenly Father. May God grant you peace in these coming weeks and months.

Barton, Kelly, Morgan and Maxwell Slagter
