Arnold Willis Kreun...

Died on June 17, 2017, at the Artesia Christian Home in Artesia, California at the age of 91.

Arnold was born on June 8, 1926, near Leota, Nobles County, Minnesota.  He was the eighth of nine children born to John and Johanna (Muilenburg) Kreun.

He grew up on the family farm and attended country School through the eighth grade, later earning a G.E.D.  He was raised with a strong Christian faith and work ethic, along with a love of music.

He married Bertha "Boots" Krosschell on April 23, 1948, in Edgerton, Minnesota.

After working as a mechanic at the implement dealer, Arnold started his own mechanics shop in Edgerton.  He was also a city police officer in Edgerton before accepting a position with the Minnesota State Highway Patrol in 1962.  He moved his family to East Grand Forks, Minnesota to take on that job which would become a lifelong career, working his entire career there.

Arnold was active in the Community Christian Reformed Church and sang with the Greater Grand Forks Barbershoppers, of which he was a member for many years.  He retired from the Highway Patrol in November of 1985.  He and Boots traveled in their motorhome to California during the winters.

Boots died in September of 1998, and Arnold moved to Edgerton.  He still wintered in California where he met Norma Zylstra at church.  They were married on August 24, 2002, in Lakewood, California.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Norma Kreun of Artesia, California; sons, Curt (Linda) Kreun of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Dennis (Ruth) Kreun of Manvel, North Dakota, Eliot (Gino Conconi) Kreun of Racho Mirage, California, and Forest (Brenda) Kreun of Andover, Minnesota; step-daughter, Gloria Trittipo of Rancho Cucamonga, California; sister, Erma Pool of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Darwin (Marlene) Kreun of Edgerton, Minnesota; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Boots; siblings, Nelson Kreun, Laurence Kreun, LeRoy Kreun, Margaret Beukelman, Esther VanHulzen, and Geraldine DenOuden; numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

I worked with "Arnie" as a member of the sheriff's office in the late 70s and 80s, up until his retirement from the MHP. He was a load of fun to work with and always seemed to have a smile or quick joke or some side comment to add, then, with his famous smile and laugh. I remember several times with Arnie that we would be sitting around especially during winter, and start up a conversation -- with Dean Ose, or Russ Wollin, or Phil Miller, Earl Mosher, or any of the many "characters" we had handy, once, in particular, the conversation was of retirement -- "yeah", Arnie said, "I suppose they want my shirt and badge, hat, gun belt, shoes, and pants...", then, with a chuckle, "I suppose they even want my purple underwear!"... we all cracked up. (Purple is the color of uniforms for the MHP -- although rumored, it is doubtful there were issued purple underwear! lol). It was one of many, many good memories I have of Arnie.
God Bless him -- he will be sorely missed. RIP Arnie. -- Rand
